Lisbon Airport Car Parks

Lisbon Airport handles just over 29 million passengers a year and is considered to be Portugal’s main air gateway. The airport is also an important hub for a number of airline carriers, such as TAP Portugal, SATA International, Easyjet, White Airways and Portugália. The airport is located within the urban area of Lisboa, the capital city of Portugal, and is one of the few airports within a major European city. Passengers on departure flights arriving in their own vehicles will find adequate Lisbon Airport parking grounds, and that the airport is connected to all major areas by prominent motorways. Parking is available for various lengths of stays at the airport as well.

Lisbon Airport is located approximately 7 km, or 4.3 miles from the city centre of Lisboa, and between this major city and Loures, found to the north of the airport. Areas within easy driving distance of the airport also include Odivelas, Amadora and the popular beach resort areas of Almada, Cascais and Estoril. The main road providing access to Lisbon Airport is the E1/A1 motorway, which passes the airport grounds on the south and eastern sides. Motorists travelling from the west will use the A5, and from the north, the A8or A1 are the major roads to follow. The A2 and A12 are also prominent roads leading to Lisboa, and the airport, and consist of bridges which cross over the River Tejo. The Ponte Vasco da Gama Bridge is the longest in Europe, and provides access to Montijo and Alcochete, while the Ponte 25 de Abril Bridge runs past Seixal and Almada.

Particularly nearby the airport are the areas of Musgueira, Campo Grande and Prior Velho, as well as Portela, and for this reason, Lisbon Airport’s second name is the Portela Airport. A number of parking options await motorists at the terminal buildings of Lisbon Airport. Ideal options can be found for short-term parking, as well as for long-term parking. Disabled drivers, or those transporting disabled passengers will also find several special parking bays for their use in all the car parking areas. Since that Lisbon Airport handles such a large number of passengers every year, it is well equipped with thousands of available car parking spaces.

Lisbon Airport short-term parking

Two of the three parking lots at Lisbon Airport are more suitable for short-term parking, and they are also located nearer to the terminal buildings. P1 is the closest parking area available, and is found near the departures end of the airport. P2 is a little further away, and nearby the arrivals area. For passengers with more luggage to carry, or who are in need of assistance for reaching the terminal building, a courtesy shuttle bus operates at all hours for transport to and from the parking lots.

Short-term parking should only be used by passengers who intend to stay at the airport for 24 hours or less, as otherwise, the parking rates could become rather expensive. Just under a Euro will be charged for parking of up to half an hour, while the first hour of parking will be charged at €2.15. Each additional hour of parking is charged at the same rate as the first hour.

The rates available at P2 are slightly less expensive. Within both the short-term parking lots at Lisbon Airport, there are several spaces allocated for use by disabled drivers and passengers. Only persons able to display a disabled parking badge will be allowed to use these spaces, as they are specially located as nearby to the terminal entrances as possible, in order to facilitate passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility challenges. The terminal buildings at Lisbon Airport are also fully equipped for the movement of passengers in wheelchairs, and further assistance can be arranged from the airline company concerned.

Lisbon Airport long-term parking

Passengers who need to leave their vehicles for longer periods at Lisbon Airport will find the P3, long-term parking area to be more economical. This parking area is located quite far from the terminal buildings, but is also served by the courtesy shuttle bus. The buses offering transport services are equipped for the needs of disabled passengers, and a few special parking spaces for disabled drivers can be found in the long-term parking area. The P3 parking lot is found nearby the entrance to the airport grounds, and is an outdoor car park, whereas the short-term parking lots are multi-storey facilities. For long-term parking, passengers will pay approximately €16.00 for the first day of parking, €14.00 for the second day of parking, and €12.00 for each day of parking thereafter. The parking area can also be used for a few hours, and each hour is charged at just over a Euro, up until the maximum daily rate.

A couple of payment stations are found within the terminal buildings of Lisbon Airport, for passengers who need to pay for parking. Payments can be made by cash or credit card, and should be handled only when ready to leave the airport.
